Let Your Knowledge Bloom on Substack
Hello there—I’m Sarah Potter
Non-Binary, They/She
Counselor in training.
Relationship-first human.
I work with children, teens, and families when things feel like a lot — offering therapy that’s warm, attuned, and completely free of blame.
I believe behavior is meaningful communication — not something to control or fix, but something to get curious about. Every child I work with is already full of information about what they need. My job is to slow down enough to actually hear it.
When we stop asking “what’s wrong with you?” and start asking “what happened to you?” — things open up in ways I find genuinely extraordinary to witness.
Nervous System-Informed
Regulation before behavior.
Attachment Theory
Connection + Repair.
Social Justice Lens
Identity, power, culture, humility.
Play-Based
Creative, expressive work.
Neuro-Affirming
Autonomy over compliance.
Anti-blame
Parents are part of the team.
Relational, regulated, and attuned. I don’t come in with a script. I follow the nervous system — yours, your kid’s, your family’s. I bring play, creativity, and space for the messy parts alongside the meaningful ones.
Big squishy bean bag chairs, hammock swings, iridescent fidget toys, kneedough, oversized sweatshirts, ramen, ice-cold water.
Lord of the Rings, Schitts Creek (EW, David), Pokémon, Minecraft long plays, Star Wars, Godzilla movies, Hilda, The Owl House, Star VS The Forces of Evil, Delicious in Dungeon, Arco, Studio Ghibli, UP, Onward.
Helena—My Chemical Romance, This is What it Sounds Like–Huntrx, Depressed–The Format, Crystallized & Different Kind of Love–Young the Giant, Perfect–Sam i, Tropkillaz, BIA, MC Pikachu, and i’m gonna tell my therapist on you–Pinkshift.
Dungeons & Dragons, any board game, building with legos, splatter painting, kinetic sand, symbolic expression, big movement, mini dance parties, karaoke.
Identity & power, ones where you share your story, unexpected honesty, hard lessons learned, ones where kids are unintentionally funny, where big truths are revealed, when a teen steps closer to knowing who they are.

Come, as you are, as you were, as you want to be…
There’s room for every identity.
Every emotion.
And every thought.
You matter here, and in our work together, we’ll help you realize this.
There’s space for:
Parents who want to move beyond behavior management toward understanding and connection.
Teens who want a space that feels respectful—not patronizing.
Families who want both practical tools and deeper relational repair.
Caregivers who are tired of doing it all alone and want shared support.
WHERE I AM IN THE JOURNEY
I’m still growing. I am a counselor in training (CIT).
In my work, in how I understand people,
in how I show up in the room.
This field asks you to keep learning—
not just from books, but from real relationships,
real families, real moments that don’t fit into neat categories.
I’m currently in training, building both clinical skill and lived understanding.
What I bring is not perfection, but presence.
Curiosity.
A willingness to slow down and really see what’s there.
But there are ways
that feel more supportive,
more connected,
and more possible.
Let’s find what works for you.
Connect with me and let’s dig in together.
