Sarah’s Mental Health Journey
Just ten years ago I was stuck in a relationship where I was abused. Mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, and when my son was born, I woke up. I saw the writing on the wall and I got out.
In the blink of an eye, I became a single mom when my eldest was barely two months old. I was lost, confused, traumatized. I buried it in thinking I could make it through life by just ignoring my trauma.
Then I started therapy in 2019. I uncovered childhood trauma, abuse in my dysfunctional family, and the emotional abuse I endured as an adult at the hands of my parents. I was uncovering trauma but beginning to lay the foundations for healing.
Therapy was working. I was healing–I’m still healing.
And now I am working hard to destigmatize mental illness with my newly launched podcast Dopamine Deficient, TikTok videos, and working with others to create an arsenal of mental health tools.
